| Abstract: |
This paper aims to showcase curriculum and instruction practices on global understanding in Chinese schools and interpret how global citizenship education (GCED) could be contextualized and implemented in schools and classrooms. To fulfill this purpose, this study recruited nine participated schools from seven cities in China and conducted ten focus group discussions with students, teachers, and parents. The findings of this study include how schools design disciplinary and interdisciplinary curriculum, how teachers facilitate inquiry learning, language learning, and civic debate, and how extracurricular activities complement in both essences and forms. Practices of these schools in China might provide implications for other countries and schools to design teaching and learning for global citizenship.
