| Abstract: |
This case study explores one White teacher’s experiences within a context of Whiteness while promoting inclusive education for students with disabilities. Interview data was analyzed using a framework of Cultural Historical Activity Theory (CHAT) and Critical Whiteness Studies (CWS) to investigate relationships between teacher socialization, preparation, and ideology in special education. Our findings describes how this teacher struggled to navigate inclusive supports for some students while participating in the marginalization of others, especially Black and Latinx. We conclude with insights into the dilemma of special education (re)producing white supremacy in the name of educational justice for students with disabilities.
