| Abstract: |
The purpose of this study is to examine to what extent there are different types of teacher support perceived by students in science learning using the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA 2015). There were a vast number of prior researches on positive impact of teacher support on students’ learning. However, few studies described typology of teacher support perceived by students based on statistically significant evidence. Using latent class analysis (LCA) with a nationally representative dataset (n=5,144), this study found four groups of students who receive different types of teacher support: Appraisal, Comprehensive, Instrumental and Independent. In addition, how the membership of subgroups associated with student background covariates as well as academic and attitudinal outcomes was further explored.
