Abstract: In this research-practice partnership, our team of university-researchers and practitioner-researchers explores an urban youth media program’s expansion into rural communities. In three week-long summer intensives in three separate rural communities, we observed the ways in which youth produced media and (re)produced place as they developed media production skills and leveraged their expertise about their communities. We found that youth were excited to share their expertise about the land and communities they called home with mentors from out of town; that they engaged in embodied problem solving as they filmed on location, and that filming in their communities produced opportunities for them to be seen and supported by their fellow community members, young and old alike.
