| Abstract: |
Academic resilience is difficult to define in an international and longitudinal setting, since economic levels and achievement standards vary across countries and over time. The main objective of the current study is to apply a modeling approach to identify academically resilient students. Data come from four educational systems in the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study 2016 – Austrailia, Chile, Chinese Taipei and Sweden. Main methods were confirmatory factor analysis and latent profile analysis. The current study showed that it is possible to identify a group of academically resilient students in each country relative to the country’s own achievement and SES levels. The varying students’ characteristics relating to their school experience and self-concept and attitude add further clarification of these students.
