The purpose of the study was to examine 65 3-4 years old preschoolers’ vocabulary word learning and story comprehension with e-books intervention in six child care centers in the southeastern of the US. The participants were randomly assigned to four e-book formats with the same narration. PPVT was used to assess children’s vocabulary level in a pre-test; post-test assessed their vocabulary knowledge and story comprehension. Findings showed that e-book enhancements promoted children’s word learning and story comprehension regardless of their language proficiency. Visual or auditory add-ons are better formats to support children’s expressive word learning and story comprehension. Findings suggested that e-books can be a scaffolding tool to bolster children’s vocabulary word learning and story comprehension.
