| Abstract: |
Discrepancies exist by race, ethnicity, and gender in the STEM disciplines in highly selective institutions, and faculty members can play a role in reversing these trends. This paper suggests that faculty mindset, whether growth or fixed, is represented by pedagogical and curricular choices and informs pedagogical and curricular choices. The following questions frame this study: (1) What are the mindsets of STEM faculty members about teaching and learning?; (2) What is the relationship between mindset and pedagogical and curricular decisions?; and (3) How do mindsets of faculty members relate to student learning, success, and participation and representation? The data revealed that a growth mindset exists among faculty, but that opportunities exist to incorporate the cultural wealth accompanying a diverse student population.
