Dear Members of Division L,
As a longstanding member of Division L, it is a distinct honor to serve as your Vice President. I am excited by the prospects of our work given our collective commitment to the study of educational policy and politics in service of education and the public good.
As a research community, we gather at the intersection of educational research, policy, and political life—recognizing that our work is not neutral, but deeply tied to questions of purpose, power, and possibility. As such, Division L remains uniquely positioned to conduct scholarship that supports evidence-based decision-making while cultivating a vibrant intellectual community that challenges unjust policies to build new educational futures. I am encouraged by the timely and significant contributions our members are poised to make as we together explore and bridge underexamined or marginalized policy histories with policy analysis in ways that protect and defend the democratic possibilities of education.
Whether you are exploring our site for the first time or are a long-time member, I invite you to join us and participate in the many research, mentoring, professional development, and service opportunities available this academic year. Our members contribute to local, national, and international research and policy conversations that shape the future of education—and we welcome your voice among them.
With appreciation,
Sonya Douglass, Ed.D.
