2025 Division F New Scholar's Book Award

Call for Division F (History and Historiography) New Scholar’s Book Award

Submission Deadline: November 1, 2024 

Division F (History and Historiography) of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) is pleased to invite proposals for the New Scholar’s Book Award. This award celebrates and recognizes quality research in the history of education. We invite books that expand, complicate, shift, or disrupt our understanding of existing and burgeoning topics and areas within the history of education. Past awardees are listed on our website.

The New Scholar’s Book Award

The American Educational Research Association, Division F, awards a New Scholar’s Book Award in the history of education biennially. The Prize Committee solicits nominations of books that fulfill the following criteria:

  • Subject: The History of Education (broadly defined)
  • Authors: A first non-edited, scholarly book (this should be the first book for all authors if it is a co-authored book)
  • Publication Date: The book must have been copyrighted in 2023 or 2024
  • Nominations: Books may be nominated by the authors, presses, or other scholars. Presses or authors nominating themselves must submit a copy of the book to each member of the committee (see addresses below). Other scholars may make a nomination by that date via email to all members of the committee by November 1, 2024, 11:59pm PST. Please note that books received after the deadline will not be considered. Awardees will be announced by February 15, 2025. 
  • Authors should be active members in Division F.The author is invited to receive the award at the Division F Business Meeting at the AERA Annual Meeting in April 2025. Information on funded projects will appear on the Division F website, social media forums and announced in AERA Highlights.

Application Process

The following members serve on the Awards Committee. Please mail hard copies (or e-versions) to Dr. Vincent Willis (vwillis@ua.edu), the committee chair, to be considered for the award. The committee may request additional books depending on whether the book is submitted as a hard copy or e-version.
