Division D is seeking graduate students who are interested in sharing their in-progress research at the 2025 AERA Annual Conference. The Division D Graduate Student In-Progress Research Gala is an interactive poster session with an audience of interested researchers, including a panel of reviewers who will rate proposals and provide formative feedback. Professional researchers will also attend the Gala and provide feedback to the student presenters. In-progress denotes work that has started and is incomplete (including preliminary data/results); this is not a study plan.
Each application receives ratings from two independent research professionals (faculty, industry professionals, advanced graduate students). The top ten (10) rated applications will be asked to give a 5-minute presentation of their work during the Gala.
We invite you to submit applications in the following methodological approaches:
- Measurement, Psychometrics, and Assessment;
- Statistical Theory and Quantitative Methodologies;
- Qualitative Methodologies; or
- Multiple and Mixed Methodologies.

SUBMISSION DETAILS
Because the IPRG is for in-progress research, the body of your proposal submission should be no longer than six (6) single-spaced pages of 12-point font with 1" margins on all sides. This does not include the abstract, references, tables, figures, or appendices. The appendices should only be used to provide supplemental information, such as scales or measures that are pertinent to your research—they should not be used to include substantial parts of the submission that did not fit in the body due to space limitations. Your proposal submission should be a blinded copy of the paper (i.e., all author-identifying information must be removed from the proposal document). Non-adhering submissions will be disqualified.
The body of your proposal submission should include the following:
- Title of Paper: No author identifying information, e.g., do not have your name in the author position or include your university anywhere on the submission
- Abstract: A brief summary of your research project, as would be submitted in a manuscript. Please make sure that the goal of the research is specifically stated, as this will provide immediate context for the reviewers and allow them to provide better feedback on your proposal.
- Introduction: Provide the necessary information to describe the context of your work. For additional guidance in crafting this section, see the “Introduction” section of the APA Publication Manual (Section 2.05). Be sure to include the most relevant previous research on the topic (if applicable). Due to space limitations, a full literature review is not appropriate or necessary.
- Research Questions/Hypotheses: Clearly state your specific research questions and the aim of the study for the reviewer. Proposal reviewers will be asked to evaluate the appropriateness of your methods given your research questions, so we ask that you make these explicit in the proposal.
- Methods: How are you going to answer your research question? Detail all of the anticipated steps necessary to complete your research. This should include sufficient detail for the reviewer to carry out your study.
- Preliminary Data/Results: What do you expect to happen in your study if this can possibly be known? What preliminary data and anticipated results do you have so far?
- Impact/Importance of Research/Significance: Why are you doing this research? What is the broader impact or applicability of your research? How will this help others or advance research in your field?
- Limitations/Future Research: What subsequent studies will your research inspire? What aspects of your study could be changed to provide more information on a relevant research question?
Reviewers reading the proposal will be doing so with two aims in mind: (1) to provide helpful feedback to improve in the study and (2) assess the quality of the proposal. Additional information to assist with your proposal writing (e.g., the reviewer’s rubric) is in this FAQ document: 2025 AERA Div-D IPRG FAQs.
The submission deadline is Friday, December 6, 2024, 11:49 P.M. EST.
Please note that late submissions will NOT be accepted.
One application per student, please. If you submit more than once, we will use the most recent. You may revise your submitted application at any time before the deadline.
If you have any questions about your submission or the submission process, please email DivisionD.IPRG@gmail.com with your concern, and we will help as soon as possible.
Thank you! We look forward to receiving your submissions!
