Terri Pigott, Ann Marie Ryan, and Charles Tocci

Terri Pigott, Ann Marie Ryan, and Charles Tocci have been appointed editors for the 2019 and 2021 editions (Volumes 43 and 45) of Review of Research in Education (RRE). Pigott and Ryan will serve as co-editors and Tocci as associate editor.

Each volume of RRE, published annually, provides an overview and descriptive analysis of a selected topic through critical essays. RRE promotes discussion and controversy about research problems in addition to pulling together and summarizing the work in a particular area of scholarship.

AERA President Deborah Loewenberg Ball appointed the editors at the recommendation of the Journal Publications Committee, concluding a process that began in June 2017 with a call for nominations, followed by candidate applications and committee deliberations.

The topics for the 2019 and 2021 volumes are, respectively, “Changing Teaching Practice in P–20 Educational Settings” and “Quality of Research Evidence in Education: How Do We Know?”

The Call for Proposals for the 2019 volume is available here; proposals are due March 1, 2018 through the RRE online submission platform. Authors invited to prepare manuscripts will need to submit final versions for peer review by July 2, 2018, to allow for any necessary revisions before publication in March 2019.

Terri Pigott is Associate Provost for Research and a professor of research methodology at Loyola University Chicago. She served as dean of the School of Education at Loyola University Chicago from 2014 to 2017. She has numerous publications on methods of meta-analysis, including work on handling missing data and computing power in meta-analysis. She is also interested in outcome reporting bias in education research and its implications for systematic review. She is founding chair of AERA’s Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis SIG and a long-time member of the Society for Research Synthesis Methodology. 

Ann Marie Ryan is an associate professor in the School of Education at Loyola University Chicago. Her research interests include the history of Catholic education in the United States from the early to mid-20th century, teaching and learning in history and the social sciences, urban field-based teacher preparation, and school, community, and university partnerships. She is a Faculty Fellow at the Faculty Center for Ignatian Pedagogy, and in 2012, she was awarded the Distinguished Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching by the School of Education at Loyola University Chicago.

Charles Tocci is an assistant professor in the School of Education at Loyola University Chicago. His research interests include student historical research, historical imagination, and nonviolence education.  His work has appeared in The Journal of Teacher Education and Educational Philosophy and Theory, and he has been supported with funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Chicago Community Trust, and the American Educational Research Association. He is currently a member of the Board of Trustees for Intercultural Studies for the Future.
