Early Career Outstanding Research Award Recipient

Dr. James Zhixiang Yang

Dr. James Zhixiang Yang is an assistant professor of Chinese Language and Culture Center at Beijing Normal University- Hong Kong Baptist University United International College. James earned his Ph.D. from Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education of the University of Oklahoma in 2016. His research interests focus on a comparative study between the educational philosophies of Confucius and John Dewey, Chinese intellectual history, and education and culture of Chinese republican period.

Outstanding Graduate Student Paper Award

Yuting Lan

Yuting Lan is a Ph. D. Candidate in the field of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Wisconsin Madison. Her research areas lie in curriculum studies, global education, Taoism and Confucianism. Minor in East Asian Studies. She received her Master’s in Chinese Languages and Literature from University of Wisconsin Madison. She has independently taught a course Writing and Literacy Across Curriculum. She is also the recipient for the 2020 University of Wisconsin Madison Graduate School Summer Research Award.

Thi Nhu Quynh Dang

Thi Nhu Quynh Dang is a Ph.D. student in Curriculum and Instruction at Indiana University Bloomington - Bloomington, IN. Her research areas lie in history education, curriculum studies, socio-cultural and political contexts of learning, students' identity. Her research interests focus on socio-cultural and political influences on students’ historical understanding, identity formation, and civic engagement. Through her scholarly work, she promotes democratic education, embracement of students’ voices, and empowerment for both students and teachers. She was also a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Honolulu, HI.
