Message from the SIG Chair/Board

Dear Colleagues,

Greetings from the School-University Partnership Research SIG!  Welcome to our research community, a hub that celebrates the confluence of schools and universities who are committed to collaborating to improving PK-12 and Higher Education Educator Preparation.

Our steadfast belief in the power of partnership stems from the undeniable evidence we've gathered over the years – collaboration not only elevates individual institutions but also paves the way for systemic advancements in  education.  Our collaborative endeavors are committed to:

  1. Knowledge Integration: Combining the academic rigor of universities with the practical insights of schools allows for a holistic knowledge exchange, bridging the gap between theory and practice.
  2. Strengthening Education Preparation and Development: This partnership affords educators an invaluable blend of research-based learning and application/experience, forging educators who are both knowledgeable and adaptable.
  3. Enhancing PK-12 Students: By intertwining university and schools/district resources while focusing on research, we strengthen learning and foster growth.
  4. Mutual Resource Enhancement: Joint ventures unlock funding opportunities, research projects, and shared resources that are not available to institutions operating in isolation.

Recognizing the multitude of ways in which schools and universities can interact, we invite your school-university partnership to join in our work. Whether it's research related to a Professional Development School or Research Practice Partnership initiative, a collaborative curriculum development project, or a Community School outreach activity, we welcome you to our research community and we look forward to identifying synergy.

Our quest is to contribute to reshaping the educational partnership landscape by contributing to the research base through our AERA SIG work, our SIGs partnerships with other organizations, and collaborative writing/grant initiatives. One example of this collaboration is the soon to be published Handbook of School-University Partnerships which will be published by Cambridge Press. This handbook shares the current landscape of research on schools and universities.

I warmly invite you to explore, engage, and co-create with us. Let’s chart a path of transformative change, by using our research efforts to capture the benefits that emerge from the best that both schools and universities have to offer.

We have an important  journey ahead!

Warm regards,

Diane
