Message from Division VP

March 2017

Kadriye Ercikan, ETS

Dear Division D Members,

The annual meeting in San Antonio is only a few weeks away. Our Secretary and all Division D committees have been hard at work preparing a stimulating annual conference, adjudicating awards, organizing events for graduate students and early career scholars, organizing the Luncheon and Business meeting, and preparing this Newsletter!! I want to thank them all for their diligent work throughout year. Thank you!

As I write this note, the Executive Order from the Trump administration that restricted travel of some AERA members to the US is on hold. However, what kind of restrictions will be in place at the time of the annual meeting is uncertain. Under the circumstances, we may have colleagues who may not be able to or choose not to attend the annual meeting. I would like to invite all of you to find ways to include them in the conference. If they were scheduled to present, I would like to encourage them to identify colleagues who might be able to deliver their papers.

We can set up Skype for them to deliver their presentations from their countries. If you know of other ways we can support our colleagues who will not be able to attend the conference because of the Executive Order, please do not hesitate to contact me. I also would like to hear directly from colleagues who will not be able to participate on the conference due to the Executive Order (

I want to bring to your attention the Policy and Practice Outreach Program, 2017 Annual Meeting. As part of this program AERA provides complimentary Annual Meeting registration to local educators and policy makers who live in the San Antonio area and are interested in participating in the annual meeting. Please get in touch with me if you have suggestions for who we might invite to participate in the Division D program for one day of the annual meeting.
