We take the unusual step of conferring this year’s award for outstanding public communication of
education research on the creative pair Dr. Roberta Golinkoff and Dr. Kathryn Hirsh-Pasek. For 36+ years, this team has collaborated to translate education science for policy makers, parents, and practitioners. With unique approaches to promoting public engagement in research, such as their “Ultimate Block Parties” held around the world, which garner high attendance and broad reach, and their “Urban Thinkscape” project in Philadelphia, which brings scientific research to the streets, Dr. Golinkoff and Dr. Hirsh-Pasek have traversed the landscape of translational communications. Their website provides a friendly forum for important viewpoints, blogs, and mainstream media. Numerous scholarly books capture what Drs. Golinkoff and Hirsh-Pasek call “edible science” for additional audiences such as children’s museums and libraries, earning them international presence as keynote speakers and global consultants.

The Outstanding Public Communication of Education Research Award is presented to honor scholars who are exemplary in their capacity to communicate the importance of education research to the broad public, including education communities.
