Submissions Deadline for 2023 Annual Meeting Extended to August 1

July 2022

The deadline for submissions for the 2023 AERA Annual Meeting has been extended from July 27 to August 1.

“With the 2022 Annual Meeting being held later than usual this year, in late April, and in light of the complexities we still face in living in a global pandemic, we hope this change will help alleviate concerns we have heard about the approaching deadline,” said AERA Executive Director Felice J. Levine.

With the change to the submissions deadline, acceptance notifications will now be sent on November 10 and the program released on January 20.

As a dual-component conference, the 2023 Annual Meeting will provide unparalleled opportunities for participation for scholars from around the world. The place-based component of the Annual Meeting will be held in Chicago, April 13-16, while the virtual component will be held on an online platform, May 4-5.

The number of roundtable allocations for papers will expand in 2023, and place-based poster sessions will be featured in the program schedule and will include large-screen, high-definition electronic monitors rather than thumbtacks and poster boards.

Like the 2023 Presidential theme itself, the Call for Submissions encourages paper and session submissions that provide diverse theoretical, methodological, and subfield or disciplinary perspectives. The extended submission deadline is August 1, 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time.

Those submitting papers or sessions will make a choice at the outset whether they wish to present in Chicago or on the virtual platform, if their submission is accepted; there will be no subsequent changes in where the accepted work will be presented.

  • Accepted sessions will be scheduled in the component (place-based or virtual) as submitted by the session organizer.
  • Papers accepted for paper or roundtable sessions will be scheduled in place-based or virtual sessions based on submission preference.
  • Papers accepted for place-based poster presentations will be scheduled for poster sessions in Chicago and will receive elevated visibility at their scheduled times.
  • Papers accepted as virtual posters will include recorded presentations and will always be accessible in the AERA i-Presentation Gallery; authors will have the option of scheduling additional live chats or video meetings at their preferred times.

Registration rates for 2023 will not change from the place-based fees that have held steady since the 2018 Annual Meeting in New York. Those attending or presenting only on the virtual platform will enjoy the low fees offered since the first virtual annual meeting in 2021. Place-based registrants pay a higher fee, but they will be able to attend the online component at no additional cost.
