Lead Federal Science Officials Will Address STEM Education, Equity, and Research at Annual Meeting

AERA Continues Its Ombuds Program at the 2022 Annual Meeting
AERA will continue its Ombuds Program as part of the 2022 Annual Meeting. The ombuds is a neutral, confidential, informal, and independent resource made available to hear persons’ concerns and assist them by identifying options and resources to address conflicts or issues. Read more

Reminder—Special Remote Access Requests Due April 1
As part of the special services and accessibility offerings for the 2022 Annual Meeting, AERA will provide remote access to in-person sessions in San Diego in extenuating circumstances. Read more

AERA to Release New Volume on Fairness in Educational and Psychological Testing
This April, AERA will release a new, groundbreaking volume, Fairness in Educational and Psychological Testing: Examining Theoretical, Research, Practice, and Policy Implications of the 2014 Standards, edited by Jessica L. Jonson and Kurt F. Geisinger. Read more

AERA Joins Scientific Community in Urging for Support for Ukrainian Researchers and Families
On March 11, AERA joined more than 30 organizations on a letter to the White House, leaders of the Departments of State and Homeland Security, and congressional leaders urging action on immigration rules and research programs to aid Ukrainian students and researchers and their families. Read more

National Academies Release Report on the Future of Education Research at IES
On March 31, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine released “The Future of Education Research at IES: Advancing an Equity-Oriented Science.” Read more

Final FY 2022 Appropriations Include Increases for Education Research, Address Important Policy Issues
On March 16, President Biden signed the FY 2022 omnibus appropriations legislation into law, with six months of the fiscal year passed. Read more

National Academies Release Report on the Pragmatic Future for NAEP
On March 24, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine released “A Pragmatic Future for NAEP: Containing Costs and Updating Technologies,” a consensus report from a study commissioned by the Institute of Education Sciences to examine innovations for the National Assessment of Educational Progress. Read more

President Biden Releases FY 2023 Budget Request
On March 28, President Biden released the administration’s budget proposal for FY 2023. The request comes shortly after the enactment of the FY 2022 appropriations legislation was signed earlier this month and therefore does not account for some of the program increases that were in the final omnibus package. Read more
