High-Profile Presidential Sessions Scheduled for 2022 Annual Meeting
AERA President Na'ilah Suad Nasir and Presidential Program Co-Chairs Tryphenia Peele-Eady and Elizabeth Tipton have developed 39 presidential sessions that contribute to the 2022 Annual Meeting theme, “Cultivating Equitable Education Systems for the 21st Century,” which focuses on ways to build education systems that champion equity and justice. Read more

Kumeyaay Community College Selected as Designated Charity for 2022 Annual Meeting
Each year, the AERA president designates an organization on the annual meeting registration form to which conference attendees can make a charitable contribution. This year, AERA President Na’ilah Suad Nasir has selected Kumeyaay Community College, a public community college located on the Sycuan Indian Reservation in San Diego County. Read more

Presenters in Place-Based Sessions Who Wish to Migrate to Virtual Need to Do So by March 8
2022 Annual Meeting participants in accepted sessions, paper sessions, roundtable sessions, and symposia who, as a group, wish to move from the place-based meeting in San Diego to the virtual platform have until March 8 to do so. Read more

U.S. Vaccination Cardholders Attending On-Site Annual Meeting Need to Confirm Vaccination Status Soon; Process in Place for Non-U.S. Vaccination Cardholders
AERA urges those who plan to attend the place-based component of the 2022 Annual Meeting to review and follow the process for verifying their COVID-19 vaccination status as soon as possible to avoid any last-minute delays that may affect their ability to attend. Read more

Sean Twombly and Paula Skedsvold Bring Their Expertise to AERA Senior Staff
AERA has brought on two experienced association leaders to join AERA’s senior professional team. In January, Sean Twombly and Paula Skedsvold joined AERA as Director of Membership, Outreach, and Engagement and 2022 Visiting Scholar, respectively. Read more

AERA Announces New Editor Team for Review of Educational Research
AERA has announced the appointment of Midred Boveda, Karly Sarita Ford, Erica Frankenberg, and Francesca López (all at Pennsylvania State University) as the new co-editors of Review of Educational Research for 2022–2025. Read more

Educational Researcher Author Awarded TIRF Alatis Prize
Chris Chang-Bacon, an assistant professor at the University of Virginia School of Education, has been named this year’s recipient of the TIRF James E. Alatis Prize for his 2021 Educational Researcher article “Generation Interrupted: Rethinking ‘Students with Interrupted Formal Education’ (SIFE) in the Wake of a Pandemic." Read more

Carlotta M. Arthur has been named the new executive director of the Division of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Education of the National Academies of Sciences.  Read more

IES Seeks Information on Interventions in Middle School Science and Elementary Math for Students with Disabilities
On January 13, the National Center for Education Evaluation in the Institute of Education Sciences issued a request for information on interventions in middle school science and early math interventions for students with disabilities. Read more

National Science Board Releases 2022 Science and Engineering Indicators
On January 20, the National Science Board published the 2022 Science and Engineering Indicators, including reports and data on the state of science and engineering in the United States and how the nation compares to other countries. Read more

White House OSTP Releases Report from Scientific Integrity Task Force
On January 11, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy released Protecting the Integrity of Government Science, a report of the OSTP Scientific Integrity Fast-Track Action Committee. Read more

House Leadership Unveils America COMPETES Act
On January 25, the House announced the introduction of the America Creating Opportunities for Manufacturing, Pre-Eminence in Technology and Economic Strength Act of 2022. Read more

In Memoriam

AERA members who have recently passed away

Ann Elizabeth Fennema, 93, died on December 20. She was a professor emerita in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. In 1997, she received an AERA Presidential Citation for Lifetime Achievement. Read more

Robert W. Paskel, 85, died on December 26. He retired from Pinellas County Schools (Fla.) in 2000 after serving as deputy superintendent. Read more

Lois Roets, 84, died on December 28. She retired from the University of Iowa in 2010. Read more
