AERA Honorary President Edmund W. Gordon will be providing reflections about the importance of the education research endeavor and honoring exemplary lives of scholarship to kick off the AERA Awards Celebration on December 7, 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. ET. Read more

Registration for the 2022 Annual Meeting will open on Thursday, December 9. The meeting will be held Thursday, April 21, to Tuesday, April 26, 2022. Read more

AERA Executive Board Approves Annual Meeting COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement
On November 5, the AERA Executive Board voted to require COVID vaccinations and masking for all registrants, attendees, participants, and staffs throughout the place-based component of the 2022 AERA Annual Meeting and all event spaces. Read more

Annual Meeting Presenters Have Extended Deadline to December 7 to Choose In-Person or Virtual Option
AERA 2022 Annual Meeting participants in accepted sessions, paper sessions, or roundtable sessions have until December 7 to decide as a group whether they wish their session to be held in person at the place-based component of the meeting in San Diego or on a new virtual platform. Read more

AERA and OECD Hold Forum on How Education Fared During the First Wave of COVID-19 Lockdowns
On November 29, AERA and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development held an international forum, “How Education Fared During the First Wave of COVID-19 Lockdowns? International Evidence,” drawing an audience of more than 1,600 researchers, policy experts, and practitioners from 86 countries. Read more

In Memoriam

AERA members who have recently passed away

Barbara Glenzing Dodd, 68, died on November 27. She was emeritus professor in the Educational Psychology Department at the University of Texas at Austin. Dodd served as vice president of AERA Division D–Measurement and Research Methodologies. Read more

Matthew N. Gaertner, 43, died on August 13. He was director of assessment research and innovation at WestEd. Gaertner had served as chair of the Test Validity Research and Evaluation Special Interest Group. Read more

Willis David Hawley, 82, died on November 17. He was Professor Emeritus of Education and Public Policy at the University of Maryland, where he had served as dean of the College of Education. Read more

Darren E. Lund, 60, died on November 10. He was a professor at the University of Calgary's Werklund School of Education. Lund was a member of Division B–Curriculum Studies and Division K–Teaching and Teacher Education. Read more
