Reminder – IES Director Mark Schneider Seeks Feedback on Off-Cycle Competitions and Research Topics

October 2019

In August, Mark Schneider, director of the Institute of Education Sciences (IES), wrote a blog post calling for feedback on three proposed off-cycle competitions that would be announced later in FY 2020 and on research topics to be included in the IES Request for Applications in FY 2021.

The topics for the proposed off-cycle competitions are:

  • Using state longitudinal data systems to measure long-term outcomes
  • Using National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) process data to understand how students with disabilities use accommodations and respond to answers
  • Systematic evaluation of widely used math and reading programs

In addition, Schneider seeks feedback on which research topics in the portfolios of the National Center for Education Research and the National Center for Special Education Research can be “sent to a well-deserved retirement” and which research areas are currently missing from the portfolios.

Education researchers who wish to comment should do so by the end of November. AERA will also be submitting a response.
