Four AERA journals are ranked in the top 20 of the Journal Citation Reports (JCR), released in June. AERA’s journals are included in the “Education and Educational Research” category, which now includes 243 peer-reviewed scholarly journals from around the world.   

JCR ranked journals by their 2018 impact factor, which is the total number of 2018 citations of each journal’s 2016 and 2017 articles, divided by the journal’s total number of articles published during those two years.

For the second year in a row, Review of Educational Research (RER) is first in the rankings. RER’s impact factor this year, 8.985, was more than three points higher than the second-place journal. Also in the top ten is Educational Researcher (ER), which is ranked 9th with an impact factor of 3.386.

American Educational Research Journal (AERJ), Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis (EEPA), and Review of Research in Education (RRE) all experienced significant improvements from the previous year. AERJ improved from 33rd to 15th in the rankings with an impact factor of 3.170; EEPA rose from 30th to 18th this year with an impact factor of 3.127; and RRE jumped from 91st to 35th with an impact factor of 2.488.

The Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics (JEBS) had an impact factor of 1.767 (92nd in the rankings). JEBS also has rankings in the “Social Sciences, Mathematical Methods” (18^th out of 49) and the “Psychology, Mathematical” (7th out of 13) categories.
