AERA Issues Statement on School Safety Commission's Recommendation to Repeal Federal Guidance on School Discipline
In a December 18 statement, AERA Executive Director Felice J. Levine said the Federal Commission on School Safety’s recommendation to repeal 2014 federal guidance calling on schools to address race-based disparities in school discipline was deeply disappointing and represented a step backward. AERA Awarded Grant to Support Research Training in Deeper Learning
The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation has awarded AERA a $1.5 million grant to support the AERA Fellowship Program on the Study of Deeper Learning. Read more

White House Releases STEM Education Strategic Plan
On December 4, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and the National Science and Technology Council’s Committee on STEM Education released a five-year STEM education strategic plan to ensure that all Americans have access to high-quality STEM education and that the United States is a global leader in STEM literacy, innovation, and employment.
