Two AERA journals are ranked in the top ten of the Journal Citation Reports (JCR), released in June. AERA’s journals are included in the “Education and Educational Research” category, which includes 238 peer-reviewed scholarly journals from around the world.
JCR ranked journals by their 2017 impact factor, which is the total number of 2017 citations of each journal’s 2015 and 2016 articles, divided by the journal’s total number of articles published during those two years.
After two years ranked second in the “Education and Educational Research” category, Review of Educational Research (RER) is once again first in the rankings with an impact factor of 8.241. The impact factor is a 60% increase from the previous year. Also in the top ten is Educational Researcher (ER), which is ranked 6th with an impact factor of 4.00, a 5% increase from 2016.
The Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics (JEBS) experienced a substantial increase from the previous year. This year JEBS’s impact factor rose to 2.233, a 62% increase from 2016. As a result, JEBS’s ranking rose sharply to 45 out of 238 (from 82/235 in the previous year’s ranking). JEBS also rose in two other categories: in the “Social Sciences, Mathematical Methods” ranking, it rose to 11/49 (from 17/49 in 2016), and in the “Psychology, Mathematical” category, it rose to 3/13 (from 8/13 in 2016).
As for the other AERA journals, Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis (EEPA) ranked 30th, the American Educational Research Journal (AERJ) ranked 33rd, and the Review of Research in Education was 91st on the list of 238 journals.
