Town Hall Forum on Gun Violence Research and Implications for Schools and Communities
Addressing What We Know and How to Act on It

At a time when gun violence, on average, takes the lives of 100 people and injures hundreds more in the United States every day, credible, scientific research has never been more important to our understanding of what works to prevent gun violence. This session will address the implications of gun violence research on schools and communities, and examine how researchers, practitioners, and policymakers can build upon what we know and move forward to address this public crisis.

This session will be chaired by AERA Past-President Vivian L. Gadsden (University of Pennsylvania) and AERA Executive Director Felice J. Levine. Presenters include David Adam (Urban Assembly), Ron Avi Astor (University of Southern California), Matthew J. Mayer (Rutgers University), Katherine S. Newman (University of Massachusetts), Pedro Noguera (University of California, Los Angeles), David M. Osher (American Institutes for Research). Another town hall forum, on confronting sexual harassment in the academy and scholarly professions, was featured in the previous issue of AERA18 Insider.
