AERA Books Program Announces eChapters for Sale

October 2016

AERA has just announced eChapters, a new feature of its Books Program. This new initiative is intended to provide an affordable option to those readers who have a specific interest in a single chapter rather than an entire volume. eChapters can be purchased from AERA’s ebook platform: ebooks.aera.net. Currently, 92 chapters are available from four recent AERA volumes. Each eChapter has its own unique digital object identifier (DOI), allowing for direct citation of individual chapters in addition to a citation to the respective book.

The premier titles on the eChapter platform are the chapters from the newly released 5th edition of the Handbook of Research on Teaching (Gitomer and Bell, eds.). Each book-length chapter summarizes the state of the field while providing a conceptual overview of a critical aspect of research on teaching. The chapters cover topics ranging from the history of teaching to technological and literacy issues. The table of contents can be viewed here.

The Handbook’s eChapters are available to AERA members for $19.95 ($24.95 for nonmembers). The Handbook is also available as a complete eBook to AERA members for $124.95 (149.95 for nonmembers). Paperback and hardback copies are available through the AERA website.

In addition to the Handbook, eChapters are available from the following three volumes: Interest in Mathematics and Science Learning (Renninger, Niewsandt, and Hidi, eds.), Socializing Intelligence Through Academic Talk and Dialogue (Resnick, Asterhan, and Clarke, eds.), and LGBTQ Issues in Education: Advancing a Research Agenda (Wimberly, ed.). eChapters for each of these volumes are priced at $9.95 for AERA members and $14.95 for nonmembers. Like the Handbook, complete eBooks are available for these volumes, as well as Paperback and Hardbook copies, which are available through the AERA website.
