On February 18, President Barack Obama named 105 scholars as recipients of the Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers. Of those researchers, five were specifically recognized for their contributions to education research.

Obama named two grantees from the Institute of Education Sciences as honorees:

• Christopher Lemons, Vanderbilt University
• Cynthia Puranik, Georgia State University

Obama named three grantees who have received funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) as honorees:

• Jakita Thomas, Spelman College
• Kristen Wendell, Tufts University
• Todd Gureckis, New York University

The Presidential Early Career Award is the highest honor for the United States government to confer on early career scientists and engineers. The awardees will be honored in a ceremony this spring.
