Dr. Mary Rice is an Assistant Professor of Literacy at the University of New Mexico. She researches access to online and digital literacies. Dr. Rice earned her Ph.D. at the University of Kansas while working at the Center on Online Learning and Students with Disabilities. She is also a former classroom teacher who taught English as a Second Language, reading support, and English language arts for 10 years. Currently, Dr. Rice has three collaborative book projects: Culturally Responsive Online Teaching: Critical Theories in Practice (Routledge); Luminous Literacies: Stories of Place-Based Teaching in the Land of Enchantment (Emerald); and Virtual and Augmented Reality in English Language Arts Education (Lexington/Rowman & Littlefield).

Dr. Rebecca Quintana’s roles at the University of Michigan are associate director, learning experience design in the Center for Academic Innovation, and adjunct lecturer in the School of Education at the University of Michigan. She applies learning sciences theories and methods to the design of technology-rich learning environments. Her research explores how people learn with technology, including with tools that enable social learning and knowledge building. In her teaching, she advances innovative approaches that use technology to instantiate community-oriented approaches to instruction. Dr. Quintana is an active presenter at several major research conferences and has published extensively in venues such as the Annual Meeting of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) and the International Conference of the Learning Sciences (ICLS). Her research has been published in outlets such as Instructional Science and the Online Learning Journal. In 2018, Dr. Quintana and her co-authors were recognized at AERA by the Online Teaching and Learning SIG for Best Paper in 2018.

Dr. Annette Miller is an Associate Professor in the School of Education and Social Work at the College of Saint Scholastica, where she instructs in both the Master of Education and Educational Doctorate programs. She received a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, with a minor program in School Administration from the University of Minnesota. She also holds a B.A. in Political Science and an M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction, with a minor program in Constitutional History. Annette instructed 8th-grade social studies for 13 years, and during this time was honored as the Minnesota Council of the Social Studies Middle School Teacher of the Year and as a Madison Foundation Fellow. She maintains active Minnesota 7-12 teaching and K-12 administrative licenses. Annette’s current research and scholarly activities focus on online teaching and learning, digital citizenship, critical writing pedagogy, and equitable technology integration. She has presented her work locally, nationally, and internationally. Annette recently completed a two-year Fellowship at MIT in the INSPIRE CS-AI Program, where she co-designed equity-focused practice spaces for preservice and practicing teachers, using the Teacher Moments digital platform.
