October 2012
Noted education researchers Jean Anyon, Etta Hollins, Peter McLaren, sj Miller, James Minor, and Gregory Tanaka have
offered their essay responses to the 2013 Annual Meeting theme, “
Education and Poverty: Theory, Research, Policy, and Praxis.”
AERA President Bill Tierney and Program Chair Kristen Renn have invited a dozen scholars to respond to the theme in short essays and recorded interviews. They invite you to join the conversation by reading the essays, listening to the authors as they discuss their essays, and leaving comments.
Another set of essays will be posted in November, with comments open on all essays in the months leading up to the
2013 Annual Meeting in San Francisco. The meeting will feature a Town Hall session on the essays and the reactions to them.
This effort builds on the success of
the essay series commissioned by Past President Arnetha Ball and Program Chair Cynthia Tyson for the 2012 Annual Meeting (the theme was “Non Satis Scire: To Know Is Not Enough”). Together, the 2012 and 2013 essays and responses provide an accessible resource for discussion, teaching, and research in education.
