Call for AERA 2027 Best Paper Award nomination

Dear Action Research SIG Members,

We hope you are enjoying your summer!

The AERA Action Research SIG is pleased to announce the 2027 Best Paper Award competition. We encourage all authors with papers accepted for presentation by the Action Research SIG at the 2027 AERA Annual Meeting in Toronto to consider applying.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants:

· Do not need to be members of the AERA Action Research SIG.

· Must have a paper accepted for presentation by the Action Research SIG at the 2027 AERA Annual Meeting.

· Must self-nominate by submitting their accepted paper during the nomination period.

Submission Requirements

Applicants should submit:

· The full paper accepted for presentation at the 2027 AERA Annual Meeting.

· Papers should typically be 6,000–10,000 words (excluding references, tables, figures, and appendices).

· Papers should follow APA 7th edition guidelines.

· Papers must be prepared for blind review. All submissions will be blind reviewed based on the evaluation criteria.

· Only one paper per lead author may be submitted for consideration.

AERA Paper Session Review Criteria

1. Objectives

· Introduction/Problem of Practice

· Purpose of the Study and Research Questions

2. Perspectives (Theoretical/Conceptual Framework)

3. Methods/Data Sources

· Setting/Context and Participants

· Intervention(s)

· Research Design and Methodological Rigor (including data collection, data analysis, and trustworthiness/validity)

4. Results

5. Scholarly Significance

· Significance of the findings for action research and educational practice

6. Overall Quality

· Overall Quality of the Research and Writing (organization, clarity, coherence, APA/style, and scholarly presentation)

Award

The recipient will receive:

· A $250 cash award

· A commemorative plaque

· Recognition at the 2027 AERA Annual Meeting

· A featured profile, photograph, and synopsis of the winning paper on the AERA Action Research SIG website
