SBS Campaign Launches 2015 Activities
The Social and Behavioral Sciences Campaign kicked off on February 24, holding its first meeting to lay out priorities and strategy for 2015 and assess the political landscape of issues that affect federal funding of the social and behavioral sciences.
 
New AERA Fellows to Be Inducted at Annual Meeting
AERA has announced the selection of 23 scholars as 2015 AERA Fellows, selected on the basis of their notable and sustained research achievements. 
 
AERA Offers Roster of Professional Development Courses at Annual Meeting
A rich and dynamic program of on-site and virtual professional development and training courses will be offered at the 2015 Annual Meeting in Chicago.

Obama Releases Budget for FY 2016
On February 2, the Obama administration released a $4.1 trillion budget for FY 2016. The budget shows a strong commitment to evidence-based policy making and investment in research and development. 
Congress Considers Changes to FERPA
Congress is considering changes to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act that could further limit researcher access to student record data, consonant with confidentiality protections. 
House Committee Advances ESEA Reauthorization
The House Education and Workforce Committee voted to approve the Student Success Act, a bill to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, after a 10-hour bill markup on February 11. 
Senate Sets Stage for Higher Education Act Reauthorization
The Task Force on Federal Regulation of Higher Education released a report on February 12 calling for streamlined federal regulation of colleges and universities.
NSB and NBES Leadership Meet
The National Science Board convened February 3–4 with a full agenda that included focused attention to the gains made possible through education research, a summary of the National Science Foundation’s FY 2016 budget request, and an update on the Science and Engineering Indicators.
