Marta Tienda Delivers 13th Annual Brown Lecture
Marta Tienda, a leading scholar on immigration, population diversification, and poverty and the roles they play in access to education, delivered the 13th annual AERA Brown Lecture in Education Research on October 20.
 
AERA Leadership Convenes for Fall Meeting
More than 130 of AERA’s leaders gathered in Washington, D.C., October 21–22, for the association’s 2016 Coordinated Committee Meeting. This annual event provides an opportunity for most of AERA’s committees to meet individually, but also to come together collectively in general sessions to address issues of significance to the field.
 
AERA Books Program Announces eChapters for Sale
AERA has just announced eChapters, a new feature of its Books Program. This new initiative is intended to provide an affordable option to those readers who have a specific interest in a single chapter rather than an entire volume.

Education Department Releases Guidance on Using Evidence in Education Decisions 
As states and school districts implement the Every Student Succeeds Act, the Department of Education has issued non-regulatory guidance on various provisions of the law. In September, the department released Using Evidence to Strengthen Education Investments to assist local stakeholders in decision-making on evidence-based interventions.
 
Commission on Evidence-Based Policymaking Seeks Input on Data UseComments Due November 14 
The Commission on Evidence-Based Policymaking, created by bipartisan legislation passed in March 2016, is charged with producing a report that identifies how the federal government can enhance the use of data and evidence to improve federal programs and policies.
 
President Obama's Social and Behavorial Sciences Team Releases 2016 Annual Report 
The White House National Science and Technology Council released the Social and Behavioral Sciences Team 2016 Annual Report on September 15. The report updates the progress toward incorporating social and behavioral science research in the design of federal policies and programs, encouraged last year in an executive order from President Barack Obama.
