AERA Encourages 2017 End-of-Year Giving
AERA has reached out to members and friends of education research to urge end-of-year giving. The AERA “ask” is focused on vital sets of activities supported through the Second Century Fund and the Minority Dissertation Fellowship Fund.
Strong Turnout at 2017 WERA-HKERA Meeting in Hong Kong
The World Education Research Association Focal Meeting, held in collaboration with the Hong Kong Educational Research Association International Conference 2017, drew researchers from across the globe to share research and knowledge and build research capacity.
Special Issue of ER Explores LGBTQ Issues in Education
This month, AERA published a special edition of Educational Researcher devoted to examining pressing LGBTQ issues in education. A related op-ed by the special issue editors ran on the Washington Post website. Click here to read AERA’s news release.
AERA Member Selected as FABBS Early Career Award Recipient
AERA member Kathleen Corriveau (Boston University) has been selected as a 2018 Early Career Impact Award recipient by the Federation of Associations in Behavioral & Brain Sciences.

Mark Schneider Nominated to Lead Institute of Education Sciences
On November 28, President Donald Trump nominated Mark Schneider to be the next director of the Institute of Education Sciences.
Science Groups Respond to CDC “Evidence-based” Directive
More than 40 science, engineering, and higher education organizations, including AERA, sent a letter to Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney on December 19, urging the Trump administration to ensure that the federal government “utilizes science-based decision making in its policy formulations, that scientific information is communicated in an accurate manner and reflected as such in government documents, reports, and websites.”
House GOP Takes First Step in Rewriting Higher Education Act
On December 12, the House Education and Workforce Committee advanced legislation to reauthorize the Higher Education Act on a party-line vote.
Congress Acts on Tax Reform and FY 2018 Appropriations
Congress has had a busy holiday season, working concurrently to enact legislation to reform the tax code and to fund the government for a little longer in the 2018 fiscal year.

RRE 2019 Editors Appointed, Call for Proposals Announced
Terri Pigott, Ann Marie Ryan, and Charles Tocci have been appointed editors for the 2019 and 2021 editions (Volumes 43 and 45) of Review of Research in Education. Pigott and Ryan will serve as co-editors and Tocci as associate editor.
Calls for Editors Announced for Three AERA Journals
AERA invites nominations and applications for the editorships of three of its journals: the American Educational Research Journal, the Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis, and the Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics.
