Session Hashtag: #AERAOpening

The Opening Plenary session, “Truth and Reconciliation in Education: History, Narratives, and Pedagogy,” will focus on the work of the Canadian Truth and Reconciliation Commission and highlight its landmark 2015 report detailing state-sponsored harm done to indigenous nations. The report will be juxtaposed to various efforts in the U.S. to reconcile its history of slavery, segregation, and racial oppression, and the role of schools and universities in examining—and denying— that history. The session begins with an opening performance by the Dakhká Khwáan Dancers, a National Award winning Inland Tlingit dance group based out of Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. This performance will be followed by a panel of prestigious scholars and educators from Canada and the U.S. Full Session Details
