AERA Highlights National Bullying Prevention Month

October 2017

AERA joined schools and other organizations across the country during October to highlight National Bullying Awareness Month to help educate the public on bullying prevention efforts and encourage individuals to get involved.

“Every student deserves to feel safe and secure in the classroom,” said AERA Executive Director Felice J. Levine. “Through advocating for our students and conducting further education research, AERA remains steadfast in advancing solutions and examining ways to prevent bullying, promote safety, and encourage inclusion throughout the country.”

AERA has a long-standing commitment to raising awareness of research around this issue. Since 2010, it has produced information and resources necessary in combatting bullying nationwide. AERA uses social media, e-blasts, and other communication channels to promote its bullying prevention and school resources, which are provided online for free. These include:

In addition, AERA has partnered with education researchers who study bullying prevention and school safety in featuring their efforts online. Leading scholars, including Ron Avi Astor (University of Southern California), Dewey Cornell (University of Virginia), and Brendesha Tynes (University of Southern California), recently shared messages via AERA social media outlets in promoting a culture of tolerance and respect for others.
