Hurricane Harvey has created enormous personal and professional distress to the people of Texas and the Gulf Coast. The suffering of individuals and communities in the region is horrible and the loss of lives and property is tragic. The American Educational Research Association supports our colleagues, students, and all others affected by this disaster.

With more than 200 school districts unable to open at the start of this new academic year, students and faculty need our assistance during this painful time. This is a time to come together to help our friends in Texas and the Gulf Coast begin the recovery process and move forward from these severe circumstances.

AERA is encouraging those who can contribute to help the individuals affected by Hurricane Harvey as part of our commitment to the health and safety of children and adults of the area.  One good source is Charity Navigator, which offers information about different organizations and ways to contribute.

We will continue our support throughout the coming weeks and months ahead, and our thoughts are with all who are suffering during this very difficult time.

Most sincerely,

Deborah Loewenberg Ball
President
