More than 100 researchers gathered the morning of Saturday, April 22, for a breakfast co-hosted by AERA, the American Sociological Association, and other scholarly societies, before heading to the National Mall to join thousands of other scientists for the March for Science.

Dozens of AERA members and their guests came from not only the Washington, D.C., area, but also from around the nation—with many others taking part in marches elsewhere.  Joining AERA members in D.C. were several AERA staff members.

“We are proud of the education researchers who made their voices heard today,” said AERA Executive Director Felice J. Levine. “Scientific progress, innovation, and evidence-based policy in all fields of science are critical to the well-being of all Americans, and must be promoted and fully supported by our nation’s leaders.”

AERA is partnering with the American Association for the Advancement of Science and many other organizations in the scientific community to use the momentum and energy of the March for Science as a launching point for a longer term, strategic initiative to build broad based support for science and research.   The coalition released a statement on April 24, stating their intent to further foster public support and engagement in science through their global memberships.
