Opening Plenary on Higher Education Challenges
Annual Meeting Kicks Off with Highly Engaging Session

The 2017 Annual Meeting will formally begin with an opening plenary of three university leaders discussing the premises and purposes of higher education during these challenging times. On campuses across the United States and worldwide, there are growing concerns about equity, justice, and civility that reflect broader societal tensions.

Cynthia Teniente-Matson, president of Texas A&M University San Antonio; Michael A. Olivas, interim president of the University of Houston; and Jonathan D. Jansen, the former vice-chancellor of the University of the Free State in South Africa will address the many challenges and complexities facing higher education in a world that is increasingly facing racial, social, and political divisions.
