RRE 2018 Editors Appointed, Call for Proposals Announced

December 2016

Jeanne Powers, Gustavo Fischman, and Adai Tefera have been appointed coeditors for the 2018 edition (Volume 42) of Review of Research in Education (RRE). The annual journal provides an overview and descriptive analysis of a selected topic through critical essays. RRE promotes discussion and controversy about research problems in addition to pulling together and summarizing the work in a field.

AERA President Vivian Gadsden appointed the editors at the recommendation of the Journal Publications Committee, concluding a process that began in June 2016 with a call for nominations, followed by candidate applications and committee deliberations.

The topic of the 2018 volume is “The Challenges and Possibilities of Intersectionality in Education.”

As with the previous two volumes of RRE, this volume will also follow an open call model. The Call for Proposals is available here; proposals are due February 15, 2017, through the RRE online submission platform. Authors invited to prepare manuscripts will need to submit final versions for peer review by July 1, 2017, to allow for any necessary revisions and publication in March 2018.

Powers is an associate professor in the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona State University. She is the author of the book Charter Schools: Reform Imagery, Reform Reality (2009) and articles that have appeared in journals such as the American Educational Research Journal, Educational Policy, and Equity and Excellence in Education. Her article “From Segregation to School Finance: The Legal Context for Language Rights in the United States,” published in the 2014 volume of RRE, won AERA’s 2015 Review of Research Award.

Fischman is a professor in the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona State University. He is the author or editor of several books, including Imagining Teachers: Rethinking Teacher Education and Gender (2000), Critical Theories, Radical Pedagogies, and Global Conflicts (2005), and Made in Latin America: Open Access, Scholarly Journals, and Regional Innovations (2015), as well articles published in journals such as International Review of Education, Teachers College Record, and the American Educational Research Journal.

Tefera is an assistant professor in the School of Education at Virginia Commonwealth University. Prior to this role, she was a postdoctoral scholar at the University of New Mexico and later Arizona State University, and also served as a Congressional Fellow in the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation for Rep. Chaka Fattah (D-PA). Her research has been published in journals including Teachers College Record, Educational Policy Analysis Archives, and Theory Into Practice. She is an editorial board member for Education Review/Reseñas Educativas and Open Review of Education Research

Powers and Fischman will continue as coeditors for the 2020 volume of RRE, and will be joined by Margarita Pivovarova of Arizona State University.
