On March 26, Mark Schneider announced that his term as director of the Institute of Education Sciences was ending on March 28. Read more
Final FY 2024 Appropriations Include Significant Cut for NSF, Small Reductions for IES and NIH Under Spending Caps
After a long and winding appropriations process that included the removal of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy from his post and multiple continuing resolutions, Congress took action on bipartisan agreements on FY 2024 appropriations this month. Read more

Matthew M. Chingos directs the Center on Education Data and Policy at the Urban Institute. Chingos and his colleague James Carter oversee Urban’s Education Data Portal, which draws on data from most major national data sources on schools, districts, and colleges, coordinating variables and documentation to make it easier to look at trends and combine data. 2025 Annual Meeting Call for Volunteer Reviewers—Deadline: April 29
AERA is seeking volunteers to serve as peer reviewers for submissions for the 2025 AERA Annual Meeting. Individuals interested in being considered as peer reviewers are encouraged to volunteer for specific units (divisions, SIGs, or committees) through My AERA.

In Memoriam

AERA members who have recently passed away
Luis Moll, 76, died on March 5. He was professor emeritus at the University of Arizona. Moll was named an AERA Fellow in 2008, received the Palmer O. Johnson Memorial Award in 2011, served as vice president of Division G in 2011-2014, and delivered the 2009 Brown Lecture. Read more
