AERA Honors 44 Education Researchers as Fellows for Their Outstanding Accomplishments in the Field
WASHINGTON, D.C., April 10, 2009 – The American Educational Research Association (AERA) announces the selection of 44 scholars to be AERA Fellows in recognition of their exceptional scientific or scholarly contributions to education research or significant contributions to the field through the development of research opportunities and settings.
The AERA Fellows are known both nationally and internationally for their outstanding contributions to education research. Through this Fellows Program, the Association aims to convey its commitment to excellence in research and to underscore to new scholars the importance of sustained research contributions in the field.
These Fellows join an inaugural group of scholars announced last summer for induction at a Fellows Breakfast on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 during AERA’s 90th Annual Meeting in San Diego. It is the Association’s expectation that Fellows will be visibly engaged in important AERA programs and activities and that they will serve as models and mentors to the next generation of scholars long into the future for the field.
The AERA Fellows Program launched with a group of Inaugural Fellows in 2008. AERA past presidents and scholars who had been selected to receive the AERA Distinguished Contributions to Research in Education Award through 2006 were invited to become Fellows. In addition, AERA members who had been inducted into other research organizations through 2006, based on criteria the same as, or equivalent to, that for the AERA Fellows Program were included. These organizations are the National Academy of Education, the American Psychological Association, the Association for Psychological Science, the American Statistical Association, the Sociological Research Association, and relevant sections of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Nominated by peers, selected and recommended by the Fellows Program Committee, and approved by the elected Council governing AERA, the new AERA Fellows and their affiliations are:
