Call for Editor Proposals
Handbook of Research on Teaching, Fifth Edition
Deadline: March 1, 2010
The AERA Books Editorial Board invites proposals to lead and edit the next edition of the Handbook of Research on Teaching. As a comprehensive review of education research on teaching across its multiple facets and related fields, the Handbook is an essential resource for students and scholars dedicated to the study of teaching and learning. The volume is expected to provide analytic understanding of the state of the knowledge and serve to inform future directions of research.
The Board has set the following goals for the Handbook:
The Handbook should approach the facets of the field in a broad and integrative manner.
The Handbook should shape the field of research on teaching for the next decade, addressing both traditional and nontraditional topics.
The Handbook should cover the major research topics that constitute the field and identify areas that require more research.
The Handbook should be inclusive of scientific research germane to teaching across arenas of inquiry and fields of scholarship.
The Handbook should reflect international perspectives about research on teaching.
The Handbook’s fifth edition should be published 2 years after editor selection.
The next edition may include topics such as theoretical/foundational frameworks; methodological issues for research; evidence-based approaches; practice, learning, and instruction; diversity in teaching and learning; teacher development; policy; the social organization of teaching and learning; informal teaching; globalization; and the role of technology. These topics are offered as illustrations. Proposals are sought that address such areas and the many other facets of research on teaching. The editor’s vision and conceptualization of this research handbook are important elements in the selection process and will be key to determining the importance and impact of the next edition.
The Books Editorial Board invites proposals from scholars who can assemble and lead a team of editors and authors to achieve these goals and purposes for the next Handbook of Research on Teaching. If you are interested in serving as editor, please read the proposal guidelines as you develop your Handbook proposal. Send all inquiries or expressions of interest to Todd Reitzel, Director of Publications, at treitzel@aera.net. Proposals are due by March 1, 2010, and should be submitted to books@aera.net.
Read the guidelines for submitting proposals.
