The educational administration professoriate: Another look
FINAL REPORT:This project entails an indepth analysis of the characteristics, activities, and attitudes of faculty involved in preparing school leaders. Using the National Center for Educational Statistics 1993 National Survey of Postsecondary Faculty and data collected in 1994 from faculty members in 375 departments of educational administration in the United States, comparisons will be made between educational administration faculty members and faculty across disciplines. Also, within the educational administration professoriate, activities and attitudes will be analyzed by variables such as gender, race/ethnic background, type of institution where employed, and length of time in academe. In addition, data from prior studies wil be used to make longitudinal comparisons within the educational administration professoriate and between this subgroup and faculty in other disciplines. The results of this study should enhance our understanding of those preparing school leaders, how they have changed over time, and how they compare with faculty across disciplines. The study will provide a valuable data base to assist in designing reform initiatives for educational leadership preparation programs.
