Modeling Student Success at Community Colleges
FINAL REPORT:
This study utilized both institutional data and data from the BPS database to construct a student success model for community colleges. The student success model enables colleges to 1) assess institutionai effectiveness in terms of student success rates; and, 2) identify at-risk students soon after their first enrollment. The measure of institutional effectiveness will serve as an indicator to assess progress and may also be used for peer group comparisons. Early identification of at-risk students will facilitate the use of intervention strategies that are designed to promote student success. CHAID was used to graphically depict the relationship between the independent variables and a (0,1) outcome measure that represented student non-success and student success. Logistic regression was used to construct the predictive model.
