What is the deadline for submission of applications?
The online portion of the application and supplemental documents must be received by December 15, 2009. Late applications will not be accepted.

What is the notification date of the awards?
Applicants will be notified of their status by May 2010.

Can I apply if my degree is not from a department or school of education?
At the time of appointment, fellows must have an earned doctorate in education or a related social or behavioral science field (i.e., anthropology, psychology, statistics, or sociology).

Who is eligible for the AERA-AIR (A²) Fellows Program?
The AERA-AIR (A2) Fellows Program is open to U.S. citizens or permanent residents only.

Does an application have to be sent to AIR in order to apply for the A² Fellows Program?
Applicants do not send application materials to AIR. Finalists will interview with AIR staff in Washington, DC.

What is the acceptable format to submit the personal statement, dissertation abstract, dissertation/doctoral thesis summary, writing sample, and curriculum vita?
All uploaded documents must be submitted in PDF.

Do letters of recommendation and reference forms have to be mailed to AERA?
Letters of recommendation and reference forms may be emailed to fellowships@aera.net or mailed to AERA. Applicants are responsible for ensuring their letters and reference forms are received by December 15, 2009.

Is an official transcript required for the AERA-AIR (A²) Fellows Program application?
An unofficial transcript is acceptable at the time of application. An official transcript will be required if applicant is awarded a fellowship. Graduate school transcripts must be received by December 15, 2009.

What if I currently have funding from another source?
The AERA-AIR (A2) Fellows Program is a full time position with time allotted for individual research and professional development. Fellows must obtain permission from AERA and AIR before accepting other positions.

Can I receive the AERA-AIR (A²) Fellowship if I have not yet completed my doctoral degree?
Fellows must have completed their PhD/EdD degrees within three years of beginning the fellowship. The fellowship will begin on July 1, 2010 or soon thereafter. 

What is the tenure and amount of the AERA-AIR (A²) Fellows Program?
The AERA-AIR (A2) Fellows will receive a $45,000 - $50,000 annual stipend and will be eligible for the AIR benefits package. The A² fellows’ award is for a period of up to two years, renewable after the first year by mutual agreement.

Letters of recommendation and reference forms may be emailed to fellowships@aera.net or mailed to AERA. Graduate school transcripts must be mailed to AERA at the following address:
