A Letter from the Division D Representatives to the Graduate Student Council
As graduate students ourselves, we know that you are very busy with papers, data analyses, comps, dissertation writing, GA work, procrastination, and somehow finding a little time to sleep. Our goal for this page is to provide you resources that will save you time and keep you informed. The Division D Graduate Student Committee has been working hard to create a website, and we hope that you will routinely visit it. We plan to update the pages on biquarterly basis. We will be making regular contributions to the Announcements page. Check it regularly for general Division D announcements as well as announcements specific to graduate students.
On our website you can also find information about internships that may be of interest to Division D grad students. This information will include application deadlines and other requirements. Click here for the latest list of internships.
On the lighter side, we will implement Ask a Scholar and Ask a Student sections. On the Ask a Scholar page, we pose a question of relevance to Division D grad students to several scholars in the field. Their responses and photos are posted in that section as a way for you to get some different perspectives on the issue and to get to meet some of the scholars in our field.
On the Ask a Student page, we pose a serious and a more lighthearted question to Division D grad students. Their responses to the serious question give you their outlook and advice about the topic, and their responses to the lighthearted question may help you get to know your fellow Division D grad students!
We also have a section for you to meet the grad student committee. On that page you can learn about each member of the Graduate Student Committee and learn more about those behind the Division D webpage and the people providing outreach to you.
As part of the new efforts to open communication among the graduate students on other committees within the Division D, we created a new position on the grad student committee – a liaison. Our liaison Gail will be in touch with graduate student members on other committees and updates will be shared on our website.
If you have content to add to the webpage, such as conferences or internships of interest to Division D grad students, suggestions for questions to Ask a Scholar or Ask a Student, or anything else, we would love to hear from you. Also, we are here to help Division D meet your needs. If you have ideas or suggestions for the division or committee, please share them with us. To reach us, just drop us an email at DivD.gradstudent@gmail.com!
Sincerely,
Dubravka Svetina and Karen Rambo
