Call for Participation in the Division C 2010 New Faculty Mentoring Program 

We are busy planning the New Faculty Mentoring Program (NFMP) for AERA 2010 in Denver from Friday, April 30 to Tuesday, May 4.  This program provides an excellent opportunity for junior faculty to learn from distinguished scholars, network with colleagues, and focus their responsibilities as new professors.

Call for New Faculty Participants
New faculty who have been appointed at their first position within the past three years are eligible to apply.  Submission deadline is Friday, January 8, 2010. See the New Faculty Mentoring page for application instructions. 

Call for Mentors
In addition to new faculty applicants, we will also be seeking potential mentors.  We will do our best to seek mentors whose areas of expertise match those of program participants.  If you are interested in serving in this capacity, please contact the New Faculty Mentoring Committee co-chairs: Stephen Tonks (stonks@niu.edu) and Ellen Usher (ellen.usher@uky.edu). 



Call for Applications for the Paul R. Pintrich Outstanding Dissertation Award (APA Division 15)

The Paul R. Pintrich Outstanding Dissertation Award recognizes excellence in doctoral dissertation research that has been completed within the past two years. To be considered, all application materials must be submitted electronically via email. Submissions must be received no later than 5 p.m. EST on Thursday, December 31, 2009.

AERA 2010 Division C Graduate Student Seminar 

Call For Applications

Plans are underway for the 2010 Division C Graduate Student Seminar, which will be held April 29 (Thursday) and April 30 (Friday) just prior to the AERA Annual Meeting in Denver. This year Akane Zusho (Fordham University) is serving as chair and Jennifer Cromley (Temple University) is serving as vice-chair.  

The objective of the seminar is to provide graduate students who are members of AERA Division C with an opportunity to receive mentoring and advice from current faculty members and to begin developing professional relationships with current and future leaders within the field. The seminar is intended for full-time, advanced level doctoral students who are approaching the dissertation phase of their programs. Students who will have finished their dissertation by the end of April, 2010 should consider applying for the Division C New Faculty seminar instead.

Call for Nominations for Division C Secretary (2011-2013)

On the behalf of the Division C Nominating Committee, I would like to request your nominations for the office of Secretary of Division C for a two-year term beginning at the conclusion of the AERA Annual Meeting in 2011.  If you would like to nominate a Division C member for this important office (or nominate yourself) please send me the name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address of your nominee by Friday, August 7.  Past Division C Secretaries include:  P. APA Division 15 (Educational Psychology)

Division 15 (Educational Psychology) of APA invites graduate students who are members of the division to apply for a dissertation research award. The purpose of the award is to provide financial support for educational psychology doctoral students who are preparing to collect dissertation data.

Nominations are open for the 2009 Sylvia Scribner Award of Division C of the American Educational Research Association. The award recognizes a program of work by a Division C member that has significantly influenced thinking and research in the field of learning and instruction. In particular, the annual award is designed to honor current research (i.e., within the last ten years) that represents a significant advancement in our understanding of learning and instruction. The recognized work may include but is not limited to research articles, paper series, monographs, book chapters, and/or books. This includes collaborative teams as well as individuals.More information.

 


Call For Papers - COGSCI2009

Cognitive Science Society is pleased to announce its 31st Annual Conference. The Society brings together researchers from many fields that hold a common goal: understanding the nature of the human mind. The Society promotes scientific exchange among researchers in disciplines comprising the field of Cognitive Science, including Anthropology, Artificial Intelligence, Education , Linguistics, Machine Learning, Neuroscience, Philosophy, and Psychology.

The conference will be held in Amsterdam, at the Free University, from Wednesday, July 29th to Saturday, August 1st (Wednesday, July 29th, is a day of tutorials and workshops). The Society produces a printed conference proceedings of all papers and posters. All sessions will be accessible for those with disabilities.

Call for Applicants and Mentors -- Division C New Faculty Mentoring Program

We are seeking applicants and mentors to participate in the New Faculty Mentoring Program at AERA in San Diego.  This is an excellent opportunity to learn from distinguished scholars, network with colleagues, and focus your responsibilities as a new professor.

What is the NFMP? The Division C New Faculty Mentoring Program (NFMP) provides new faculty members with an opportunity to meet across institutions, receive advice from successful researchers in our field, and to work one-on-one with an experienced scholar in their area of research interest. The NFMP is comprised of two key components: a half-day seminar and one-on-one mentoring with a recognized scholar.  The tentative schedule will be:

Sunday, April 12th, 7:00 p.m. - NFMP Networking Dinner
Monday, April 13th, 8:00 to 11:50 a.m. - NFMP Seminar
