Welcome to Division J, Postsecondary Education. The mission of Division J is to advance research on postsecondary education with the goal of developing and testing theory, improving practice and informing policy decisions. To this end, the division provides a national and international forum for the dissemination and discussion of research on a multitude of topics with a postsecondary education focus. As one of 12 divisions of AERA, Division J serves as a vital link for its members with researchers across the educational spectrum. Through the annual meeting, annual pre-conference for new faculty and graduate students, and continuing electronic forms of communication (AERA-J listserv, and the Pen newsletter) the division serves as a mechanism for professional development and for establishing relationships with colleagues with similar interests and goals. Graduate student members find AERA, and particularly Division J, to be a good place to meet a wide range of professionals, apprentice into the field, and to make personal and professional friendships that last a lifetime.
In keeping with its mission, Division J members include faculty, trustees, presidents and administrators from two-year and four-year colleges and universities, policy makers, researchers, and government officials. Graduate students comprise an especially important segment of the division’s membership. We encourage and welcome members from the international educational community and from other divisions within AERA; currently Division J has members from over 15 countries.
