The purposes of the Democratic Citizenship in Education SIG are to promote research and best practices associated with the development of democratic citizenship and the role of education and schooling. The SIG offers a broad parameter of how “democratic citizenship” is defined, but the fundamental component of all presentations is to offer research and best practices as related to “voice,” “access,” “representation,” and “participation” first in the classroom/school, and then on to society at large.
