The SIG Advanced Studies of National Databases (ASOND) offers a way for those with a particular interest in applying advanced statistical analyses to data derived through state- or province-wide, national and international data collections. Through ASOND, you can present on your research, learn by reviewing the work of others, share with others sources for innovative practices in addressing large data sets, or aid in creating opportunities for others to appreciate the value of analyses of large databases.

However, the vitality of our SIG is highly dependent upon YOU! For example, our session allocation at AERA’s Annual Meeting is based upon the number of papers submitted through ASOND. Our ability to put together a program of solid quality depends upon the work of our reviewers. The execution of our sessions and roundtables at AERA depends upon our chairs and discussants. Our existence as an AERA SIG depends upon the size of our membership.  Our ability to operate effectively as a SIG depends upon the willingness of members to serve as officers-webmaster, newsletter editor, chair, program chair, or secretary/treasurer—and to recommend membership to others. These roles-submitter, reviewer, discussant, chair, officer, membership recommender—are roles you are qualified to play. When the calls are made for papers, reviewers, newsletter items, for session chairs and discussants, for officer roles, and for member recommendations, involve yourself. Have doubts about your capabilities? Not to worry. AERA and the current cadre of ASOND volunteers provide substantial resources for assistance.

I hope to catch you involved!
