December 2012

Join AERA for the 2013 AERA Annual Meeting in San Francisco, California. The dates are Saturday, April 27 – Wednesday, May 1. The preconference events will take place on Friday, April 26. Keep in mind that this year’s Annual Meeting follows a Saturday-through-Wednesday pattern.

New Awards Luncheon Added as Plenary Event

For the first time in 2013, the Award Ceremony and the Presidential Address will be held as separate events. The Awards Ceremony will be held as a featured luncheon event in a non-competitive time slot. The new Awards Luncheon will take place on Day 3 (Monday, April 29) from 12:25-2:25 PM. All attendees are encouraged to be present and honor the accomplishments of education researchers in the field. President William Tierney will preside at the luncheon.

Those wishing to attend can purchase lunch in advance on the registration form or can attend without any cost (bringing their own lunch if they wish). Attendees ordering lunch need to pre-register ($35 for regular members and $20 for student members) as part of their online registration.

The Presidential Address will take place, as usual, also on Day 3 of the annual meeting (Monday, April 29). The time of the Address is 4:35-5:50 PM. It will be followed by a champagne reception from 5:50-6:20 PM.

Online Registration Opens December 20

Online registration and housing are set to open December 20. Register soon to take advantage of the Early Bird rate. Early Bird registration provides several advantages in addition to the discounted registration fee, including assured housing at special guaranteed rates and no delay or inconvenience on site.

The Early Bird deadline is March 15, 2013. Rates increase after March 15. View complete registration details, including general registration information, rates, and policies. Check out complete housing details as well for a list of hotels and rates, a map showing hotel locations, and information on ground transportation.

Registrants should keep in mind that meeting registration and housing reservation must be made at the same time. After the online meeting registration is completed, the registration summary includes a link for making online hotel reservation. AERA membership must be current through December 31, 2013, if registrants wish to receive the discounted AERA member rate. Membership can be renewed first online.

Professional Development Courses: Register in Advance

AERA offers a robust program of extended and “mini” professional development courses. It is necessary to register in advance for these courses. The program was crafted after consideration of more than 70 submissions in a competitive review process. Professional development courses provide training in specific research methods and skills, cover significant research issues in education research and related disciplines, emphasize specialized areas, address professional development issues, focus on research for the improvement of practice, or examine recent methodological and substantive developments in education research. For the first time, a set of courses will be available through live streaming. Those who cannot attend on site in San Francisco are encouraged to register and attend.

Register in Advance for Off-Site Visits and Tours

AERA offers several off-site visits and tours to enrich your meeting experience. Plan to register in advance for these popular events.

Headquarter Hotels for AERA and NCME

The primary site of the AERA Annual Meeting, where registration, exhibits, Presidential sessions, and AERA-wide sessions will be held, is the Hilton Union Square. The other headquarter hotels where sessions will be held are the Grand Hyatt, the Hotel Nikko, the Park 55, the Sir Francis Drake, and the Westin St. Francis. The Intercontinental San Francisco Hotel is the headquarter hotel for NCME. AERA will not be using the San Francisco Convention Center.

Online Program Schedule Coming in February

The online program with scheduling information will be available in early February.

Print Program and Opt to Go Green

AERA invites meeting attendees to be a part of the Association’s Go Green initiative and opt out of receiving a print program. Those wishing to Go Green need to opt out of obtaining a printed program, as noted on the online registration form.

Go Green registrants will have available the online program. Also, the final printable program in PDF will be posted to the website well prior to the Annual Meeting. Registrants can download the mobile app free of charge and use that instead of a print program. Also, those who Go Green may choose to print or save pages of interest from the PDF version of the program online.
